There is a famous saying – you learn from your mistakes. It doesn’t hold for Chinese auto makers, it seems. The world has been witness to stupid and fake spin-offs of some of the best cars in the world. Chinese (Geely) even did a car that looked like the Rolls-Royce Phantom! And the act does not stop, even as I write this. At the 2010 Beijing Auto Show, on display were some quite interesting ‘domestic’ cars that were clearly inspired from international products.
The Lifan 320 looks like a twin sister of Mini Cooper, only with a squint in her eye and stupid, ungainly curves all over. Shuanghuan Auto did a take on Smart, just that it wasn’t quite up there. Not enough? Well, there was BAW’s B90 and B40 that look like a Range Rover and Jeep Wrangler respectively. Geely GE – the world famous Rolls-Royce Phantom copy – looked a bit different with its new styling (check out the pics). But different does not mean attractive here. Geely GE is a shockingly ugly car. Spare us the torture!
